Objectives

The Somali Society of Dermatology (SSD) works with a clear mission to strengthen dermatological care, research, and education. Our main objectives include:

  1. Promote Excellence in Dermatology
    • Provide continuous training, workshops, and conferences for dermatologists and medical professionals.
    • Support professional development through certification, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing.
  2. Advance Research and Knowledge
    • Encourage research on skin diseases prevalent in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
    • Build a scientific database on dermatological conditions affecting the local population.
    • Publish and share research findings with both national and international communities.
  3. Increase Public Awareness
    • Educate communities about skin health, hygiene, and prevention of common skin diseases.
    • Fight stigma and misconceptions related to skin disorders such as vitiligo, leprosy, and acne.
    • Use media and outreach programs to promote healthy lifestyles and self-care practices.
  4. Improve Access to Quality Care
    • Advocate for better dermatology services in hospitals and clinics across Somalia.
    • Collaborate with policymakers to integrate dermatology into national healthcare systems.
    • Support mobile clinics and outreach programs for underserved rural communities.
  5. Foster National and International Collaboration
    • Build partnerships with dermatology societies, universities, and health organizations worldwide.
    • Facilitate exchange programs, joint projects, and shared learning opportunities.
    • Represent Somalia in regional and global dermatology forums.
  6. Protect Skin Health and Well-being
    • Promote early detection and treatment of skin cancer, infections, and chronic conditions.
